Booze-Free Bevees Beer Blog: Two beers, one review. Bevees’ Beer to Beer cracks open the latest and greatest non-alcoholic brews from around B.C., Canada, and the world to help you decide how to spend your hard-earned dough.

The first heatwave of the summer is simmering across the province. And what better way to stay cool than with a classic pilsner?

Fortunately, we've come a long way in Canada since the style was synonymous with a green-and-red can covered in white bunnies.

Here are two non-alcoholic pilsners from B.C. breweries that are sure to satisfy your thirst while making sure you can make the most of the summer months.

LOGO Pilsner

From Fernie Brewing Co., a formidable East Kootenay brewery, comes LOGO Pilsner.

Leaning towards the North American interpretation of the style, LOGO Pilsner pours a light gold. It forms a thin, cloud-white head that lingers like the sun's heat after you step into the shade. The aroma is redolent of fresh-cut grass, while the lively liquid tickles the tongue, delivering a light maltiness that finishes with a grainy sweetness. Suffice it to say, LOGO Pilsner is infinitely quaffable. It's the perfect can to throw back after mowing the lawn or to stretch out over a session at a pool party or backyard barbecue. Just don’t forget the sunscreen.

Dry Goods Classic Pilsner

Dry Goods is a new brand that two East Van legends launched in the spring.

David Bowkett, of the award-winning Powell Brewery, and Doug Stephen (The DownLow Chicken Shack, DownLow Burgers, The Drive Canteen, etc.) brew for people who love beer but not the alcohol.

Their Classic Pilsner is a classic, indeed. Paying homage to the original Czech style, Dry Goods' version pours a pale straw colour. The puffy head leaves delicate lacing, and the pour keeps bubbling long after it hits the glass. True to style, there's nothing overwhelming about the mild, pleasantly bready flavour. But the crisp, dry finish will definitely keep you coming back for more. (And it's supplemented with Vitamin C, which means you're getting your vitamins too!)

Slap on a hat and sip it on the patio alongside tapas or oysters on the half-shell. Or chug one to tame the heat of Doug’s notorious Nashville hot chicken sando.

And check back soon for a review of Dry Goods West Coast IPA.

You'll find Dry Goods Classic Pilsner — along with the West Coast IPA and Grapefruit IPA — at Bevees.
